Joanna (AKA Jo) Stone

Hi, I'm Jo and I created Barre Vida based on my knowledge of barre workouts, dance, fitness, and physical therapy exercises. Understanding the body from within (somatic awareness) is my research. Educating others to understand their bodies is my job. Empowering students to reach their personal fitness and health goals is my passion. Dance is my art. Barre Vida is an extension of my personal mission to bring movement back into life starting at the barre. I am fitness instructor certified with AFAA, a RYT, and have an MA and BA in dance.

Veronica Farje

Veronica Farje specializes in realigning patterns of movement as a means to strengthen the whole being, releasing patterns that no longer serve, and building physical and mental strength to move beyond current limitations. Veronica has been teaching since 2002 as well as maintaining a private practice. She is a nationally certified group fitness and yoga instructor, Barre Vida certified barre instructor, and a personal trainer. Her many specialties include Vinyasa, Yin, and Therapeutic Restorative Yoga; mat Pilates; barre; endurance training; and TRX suspension training.Veronica is also a New York State Licensed Massage Therapist.

Sheina Abramowitz

Sheina Abramowitz was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, but has recently moved to Boca Raton, Fl. with her husband and children. She is a preschool teacher during the year, aquatics director and running coach in the summers, and is an active triathlete.  Sheina's plate is definitely full, but there's always time for a great Barre workout. While keeping healthy and fit are important, Sheina loves infusing some fun into her routines . Feel the burn and have some fun with Sheina!

Gianina Casale

Gianina Casale was born in Argentina and raised in Texas. She began her dance training at the age of seven and continued her education at Booker T. Washington HSPVA. Casale received her B.F.A. in Dance from The University of Texas at Austin in 2017. She is currently a Brooklyn-based freelance choreographer and a performer with Dance Theater X. In her work as a Barre Vida instructor, she aspires to connect her passions in movement, health and wellness, and self-empowerment. Her approach to teaching is a student-centered one, and she believes that by nurturing our bodies, (physical state) we simultaneously improve our mental, emotional and spiritual well-being, ultimately creating a more positive outlook on life.

Michelle Applebaum

 Michelle Applebaum was born in Rome, Italy. She completed her dance studies in Ballet, Modern and Contemporary dance with a Ballet Diploma at the Balletto di Roma school. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Performing Arts in 2011 and her Master of Science in Performing Arts in 2014. and then moved to New York City. She currently dances, teaches and choreographs with Dance To The People and MJM Dance. She enjoys every bit of being a Barre Vida instructor. She wishes for everybody to feel good in their own bodies and experience the joy of working out.

Dinie Uminer

Dinie Uminer is a Barre Vida instructor with a passion for teaching proper form and movement patterns that keep her students motivated to get the most out of their workout sessions. She knows the challenges of juggling health and fitness goals with work and family. Dinie admits the struggle is real but can be overcome with planning and determination. Morgahn Crawford

Originally from a small suburb in Texas, Morgahn Crawford received her B.F.A. in dance and choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University. After an immersive five months studying abroad in Paris, Morgahn was introduced to a way of dancing that insured longevity that included body awareness, fitness, nutrition and alignment. Morgahn received her E.B.A.S. level I (elemental body alignment system) certification, which allowed her to help others heal themselves through a seated flow series. Currently residing in Brooklyn it is her goal to share the joy of health and fitness via high energy Barre Vida classes to as many as possible.

Anastasia Benedetti

Anastasia Benedetti, born and raised in Queens, has danced, and continues to practice classical ballet and Isadora Duncan modern dance for 18 years. She recently earned her BA in   Dance Therapy from Manhattanville College and is now exploring her passion for health and wellness. Currently, she is practicing yoga and pilates, and is earning her Integrative Nutrition Health Coach certification because she believes everyone can be healed through self love and the right mindset! Anastasia loves barre because it helps women look and most importantly, FEEL good about themselves!

Johanna Lucas

A Midwest girl at heart, Johanna Lucas is originally from Iowa, but has made Brooklyn her home. She is trained in ballet, jazz and contemporary dance and competed in dance competitions in her youth.  Johanna has always maintained the importance of dance and fitness as part of her lifestyle. Having spent the last 5+ years working in the corporate marketing space, Johanna has recently pursued health and fitness ventures, including work as a health coach and new fitness certifications, including barre. Johanna enjoys all the beauty in the outside world and nature.

Sade McKenzie

NYC native Sade Mckenzie believes in the importance of  optimum self love and care, and continues to explore these idea through fitness, holistic healing, and creative expression. A dancer since the age of 6, Sade has studied ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop, and has performed internationally.  Sade began practicing barre after experiencing an injury, and enjoyed the effect that the low-impact; high-intensity workout had on re-strengthening her muscles.  Her goal as an instructor is to extend this practice as a mechanism for people to remain fit, heal injuries, and become more comfortable and aware of their body.

Maya Pleninger

Maya Pleninger is a recent graduate from Manhattanville College where she majored in Dance and Theater, and minored in Business Management. Maya has an abundance of experience in performing dance, teaching dance and fitness, and working in the administrative field. Maya has a passion for fitness, and loves that she can share that joy in her life with others through teaching. She hopes that students feel confident in themselves, have fun in class, and get a great work out!

Deborah Bailay

Deborah Bailay received a BA in Biological Sciences from Indiana University where she also pursued ballet teaching studies in the Ballet Dept.at IU's School of Music. She also trained in a variety of modern dance techniques, and practices yoga and meditation. A professional ballet teacher for over 35 years, her former students have joined NYC cultural institutions such as The Metropolitan Opera Ballet Company and The Juilliard School of Dance. She is the Director/Founder of In Grandma's Attic, an alternative children's fantasy dance program in NYC. Deborah believes in the many important benefits of Barre Vida, especially to strengthen and revitalize the body. Deborah has found first-hand that a Barre Vida barre class is not only a great work-out in a supportive, friendly environment, but also a fantastic way to start, re-charge, or end your day!

Autumn Oftedal

Autumn Oftedal is from Yakima, WA and graduated cum laude with her BFA in Dance at Cornish College of the Arts. She is trained in ballet, modern, jazz, and tap, as well as creative movement and choreography. Graduating with several chronic injuries, Autumn turned to yoga and fitness to help heal her body after moving to NYC. Finding more mindful ways to work and move, and always being one to want to share her knowledge, she began teaching fitness classes as well as dance. Autumn is currently teaching ballet, beginning tap, general fitness, and Barre Vida.

Roshi

Roshi is a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. After decades as a gym rat, she decided to devote her time to sharing her knowledge and experience, especially with women. She has taught a variety of class formats, from boot camp and spinning to Pilates and Barre. She has trained individuals and groups of all ages, from student athletes to older adults with physical limitations in a variety of settings. Roshi has completed 200 hour yoga training.

Maya S. Zeigler

Maya S. Zeigler was born and raised in Georgia and is now in New York to pursue work as an artist and educator. She studied Dance as an undergraduate and is interested in the ways that dance, fitness, and holistic wellness can support people’s bodies, whether dancer or not. Maya is passionate about learning and growth, and works as a teacher, arts administrator, and childcare provider. She enjoys the ways that barre helps strengthen and rejuvenate the body, and hopes to help students fulfill their potential and have an amazing time in class!

Juliana Garber

Juliana Garber is a Brooklyn-based dancer, choreographer and educator from Yorktown Heights, NY. She graduated from Oberlin College in 2014 with a B.A. in dance, earning the Helen M. Ward Memorial Award for Excellence in Dance. She discovered Barre after an ankle surgery in 2017. Barre not only assisted in her recovery but helped greatly in building the strength necessary to return to dancing at a professional level. In addition to Barre Vida, she teaches ballet, modern dance and creative movement to children ages 1 and up. She enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities and is eager to share her passion for movement and teaching!
